Introducing UPN: the NFT that powers your Universal Page

The NFT that powers your Universal Page

When you get started with Universal Page you can mint a free NFT that will hold your Universal Page Name. This name will serve as an identifier for your page, meaning your site will be created under the subdomain: upn.universal.page.

UPN

Your first UPN will be totally free, so everybody in the Lukso community can use the application without jumping through many hoops like buying LYX and sending it to your Universal Profile. Especially with the transaction cost (GAS) being handled by the Relay Service and initially subsidized by LUKSO, this means you can create a Universal Profile and mint your first NFT 2.0 all for free. We aim for this to be a showcase for how to onboard new people into web3.

Besides a smooth user experience, we hope this project can showcase what utilities NFTs can bring to the table. While some people think it’s all about overpriced JPEGs, the UPN NFT represents your personal website/marketplace that is owned by a Universal Profile. Ownership can be transferred to any other Universal Profile (UP) directly on the Lukso blockchain. A Universal Page will always show the UP of the owner of the NFT. This means that if you would sell or send the NFT to a different UP the page would automatically be updated with this other UP information as soon as the ownership has changed.

The NFT is using the LSP8 Identifiable Digital Asset standard and lives on the Lukso blockchain. It powers each Universal Page, but since it’s an open smart contract that anyone can use to identify the Universal Profile that owns the NFT, it could potentially also be used by other applications or use cases as well.

A Universal Page will always show the Universal Profile (UP) of the owner of the NFT. This means that if you would sell or transfer the NFT to a different UP the page would automatically be updated with UP information of the new owner.
